Since October 30, 2006, when Senator Osita Izunaso unveiled a non-profit and non-government organisation named Kpakpando Foundation dedicated to give succour to persons with disabilities, the story has been from glory to glory.
For 15 years now, Senator Izunaso and his Kpakpando foundation have shown that true humanity is not just by identifying challenges but providing solutions to the challenges, irrespective of the sacrifices that comes with them.
The foundation since its inception have paid school fees for disable persons in their scholarship schemes, donated clutches, food processors, power generating sets, cars, wheel chairs, houses, sewing machines and screened over 400 persons for cataract/glaucoma surgery, among others.
Speaking to IfeanyiCy blog during the weekend at his Owerri residence, the former Senator who represented Orlu Zone in the National Assembly disclosed that on the 8th of December 2020, Kpakpando Foundation will organise a another set of empowerment programmes at Ahiajoku Center, Owerri. The Senator said, this year's programme is coming with a Free medical outreach, services and lecture for persons with disabilities in order to give their life a positive meaning.
Senator Osita Izunaso, former National Organising Secretary of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, who was awarded National Productivity Order of Merit Award by president Buhari due to his selfless service to teeming Nigeria population with disabilities said he will not rest in providing succour to the persons with disability with various aides and tools to enhance their wellbeing and comfort.
This year’s event coincided with the significant milestone achieved as the Senator's dream of having National Disabled Commission is now a reality as President Mohammadu Buhari recently signed a bill setting up a National Disability Commission which he championed while in the National Assembly.
It's mission and vision remain to provide qualitative education, skills acquisition, healthcare and advocacy to the persons with disability spread across Nigeria as a nation, as well as passionately believes in the ingenuity of persons living with disability, working with them to acquire educational skills and resources necessary to build self-sufficient purposeful lives, thereby unleashing their potentials for the good of their own nation, through sustainability goals.
Chief Izunaso therefore invites Ndi-Imo, and Nigerians to this year's empowerment programme, free medical checkups, treatment and lecture, on the 8th of December at Ahiajoku Center, as he urged the physically challenged not to be cowed either by the despairs that confront them like monsters, or the emotional pains that threatens their happiness but to emulate Robert Hensel, a cripple who proved that no obstacle, not even the seeming disability will defeat his survival.
