Governor Hope Uzodinma has awarded a scholarship and the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira to Miss Goodness Opara of Añara Community Secondary School.
Miss Opara, an SS2 student, emerged overall winner of the maiden edition of the Imo Shared Prosperity Essay Competition and was crowned Imo Shared Prosperity Ambassador 2020 at the Executive Council Chambers Government House Owerri on Tuesday.
The Governor also awarded the sum of 250,000 each to Master Chukwuemeka John-Okafor, a JSS 2 student of Mountain Crest Schools Owerri, and Miss Etoamaihe Chinazaekpere an SS 2 student of Federal Government Girls College Owerri who emerged 1st and 2nd Runner Up respectively.
The Governor promised to make the essay competition an annual feature of his administration as it would introduce students to intellectual competition and cultivate in them the spirit of sportsmanship.
In a brief remark, Commissioner for Information & Strategy Declan Emelumba thanked Governor Uzodinma for authorizing the competition through the Ministry with a view to sharpening the writing skills of young Imolites.
Entries for the maiden edition of the Imo Shared Prosperity Essay Competition were pooled from three radio stations MyRadio FM, Orient FM, and Heart Land FM.
All entries were independently assessed by a three-man panel headed by a Secondary School Principal.
Miss Opara scaled all three stages of the competition to emerge overall winner.
