The former governor of Imo State and Senator representing Orlu Zone , Senator Rochas Okorocha has reacted to the press statement issued today by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, where the commission said that out of 7.9 billion naira recovered from Okorocha’s rescue mission government , about N5.7 billion has been sent to the government of Imo State that came after Okorocha. EFCC also said, some of Okorocha's properties in Abuja and Owerri has been sealed and the former governor will soon be charged to court.
In a short message, made available to IfeanyiCy blog by Abasiodu Idiong, Special Assistant on New Media to former Governor Rochas Okorocha, he said "It is not true; we challenge EFCC to produce details of bank account on the said allegation. This accusation is politically motivated, we also demand that EFCC retract this accusation immediately to avoid misinformation of members of the public on the said marked properties in Abuja and Owerri."
His statement reads:
"EFCC RELEASES 5.7 BN OUT OF 7.9BN SEIZED FROM OKOROCHA TO IMO: “Not True, EFCC Should Publish Account Details” - Okorocha’s Aide
We have read with dismay an online publication on The Nation Newspaper dated June 11, 2020, with the caption, “EFCC releases 5.7 BN out of 7.9BN seized from Okorocha to Imo”.
It is not true; we challenge EFCC to produce details of bank account on the said allegation. This accusation is politically motivated, we also demand that EFCC retract this accusation immediately to avoid misinformation of members of the public on the said marked properties in Abuja and Owerri.
We want the public to know that all the properties were acquired by Rochas Family over 20 years ago except for the Rochas Foundation College, Owerri and All-in Facility which were built few years back. Those who know Rochas will testify as to his character and wealth even before he became Governor in 2011.
Again, it is not true that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has recovered the said amount from the personal account of the former Governor of the state as speculated online, hence, we challenge the commission to publish same.
We hereby call on the reading public to discountenance the report as it is a known gimmick of political marauders perambulating the blogosphere with the intention to discredit their perceived political opponents."
