The Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State today, Monday 1st June, 2020 paid a solidarity visit to the family of their New Media Spokesperson detained by Imo State department of State Security Services, DSS, for alleged forgery, impersonation, defamation and inciting publications against the Governor and government of Imo State.
A delegation led by the Chairman of Imo PDP, Sir Martin Ejiogu and former Secretary to Imo State Government, Barr Uche Onyeagocha assured Mrs. Anna Nwogwugwu, mother of detained Ambrose Nwogwugwu, Director-General, Imo PDP, New Media Directorate, that his son will soon be released as the party is doing everything lawful to secure his freedom.
Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, from Aboh Mbaise LGA has been in the detention cell of the Department of State Security Services DSS since May 28.
Mrs. Nwogwugwu pleaded for the release of his son when a delegation of the members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of Imo PDP paid the family a solidarity visit at their Owerri residence on Saturday, May 30, 2020.
Repeatedly asking what was her son's offence or crime to warrant his arrest and detention, and whether he was alive, Mrs. Nwogwugwu reiterate that her son is harmless and should be released.
According to a press statement dated today 1st June, 2020 and signed by the Acting Publicity Secretary of Imo PDP, Ogubundu Nwadike, and made available to IfeanyiCy Blog, the Chairman of Imo PDP, Sir Martin Ejiogu, told Mrs Nwaogwugwu that her son (Ambrose) was in custody of the DSS, and that Imo PDP is doing everything possible within the ambit of rule of law to secure his unconditional release. He stressed that the party decided to visit her to assure her that there is no cause for alarm.
In his speech, Barr. Uche Onyeagucha, the Secretary to Government of Imo State (Emeritus), told Mrs. Nwogwugwu, a widow, that PDP in Imo State and Nigeria was fully with her son in his ordeal in the hands of the Uzodimma regime. He assured her that by the grace of God nothing evil will befall her son, as he would be released to rejoin her and the family in the next few days.
Also contributing in encouraging Mrs. Nwogwugwu and her family was Nze Law Biaduo, the State Organizing Secretary. He thanked the woman for remaining strong in the face of the present illegal arrest and unlawful detention of her popular, hardworking son. Nze Biaduo told her that he saw Ambrose Nwogwugwu yesterday and her son was in good health. He further urged her to remain strong, while all efforts to release her son are being made across Nigeria.
Also on the delegation were State Secretary of Imo PDP, Nze Ray Emeaña, immediate past Chief Press Secretary, Hon. Chibuike Onyeukwu, Ag. State Legal Adviser, Barr. Kissinger Ikeokwu, and Ag. State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ogubundu Nwadike.
