A SPEECH BY OGBENNA NNAMDI ELTHELBERTH ON THE OCCASION OF THE UNVEILING OF THE OGBENNA NNAMDI FOUNDATION ON THIS 20TH DAY OF APRIL 2019.
It is my privilege and honour to welcome my leaders, kinsman, invited guests, my friends and well wishers to this very auspicious occasion marking the official unveiling of the OGBENNA NNAMDI FOUNDATION on this blessed day of the Lord has made.
I want to thank my parents, Hon. Nze Nweleke and Mrs. Happiness Nweleke in a very special way. Not just for bringing me into this world. But for the candle they lit in me which has become my guiding principles in life. Growing up under them, I learnt a lot that has shaped my life and will continue to be for my lifetime. As a child, my parents taught me that education is the greatest form of human empowerment. They taught me that hard work and dedication are keys to success in every human endeavor. They taught me to love, be good to people and to give to those in need when I am in a position to do so. Above all, they taught me to do good to all men, I wish to thank them for the discipline and Godly upbringing they gave me, which has empowered me to become the man I am today.
Permit me brethren to express my profound gratitude and appreciation to my mentor, Mazi Clement Owunna MFR, Founder PETER OWUNNA FOUNDATION and MD/CEO STARLINE GROUP NIGERIA LTD. This isn't man whose life has been a great inspiration to me.
Growing up as a child, I didn't have the best advantages. I didn't come from a wealthy family. I didn't have the best things of life, but I was lucky to have the basic education that has shaped my life today.
Coming from a purely middle class parent gave me the opportunity to commune with classes of people in the society. I saw who could not afford the basic things if life like good shelter education, healthcare and portable water. Having the opportunity of schooling in private, unity and public schools gave me the opportunity to commune with diverse category of persons, some from the rich families and some from the poorest families. The most important challenge for me was seeing people who couldn't afford medical care. I was so distraught to see that people are condemned to die, not because it was their time to die, but because they lacked what is required to get basic healthcare.
These challenges informed my desire and resolve to spend the rest of my life and substance to invest in human resource development. The famous Tibetan Monk, Dalai Lama said and I quote " Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries, without them humanity cannot survive". I strongly believe that an empowered citizen is a great asset to a Nation. Therefore we cannot have an empowered citizenry if we do not invest in education and healthcare.
The legendary American musician Bob Marley said and I quote, " The greatest of a man is not how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively". This is why I am devoting my life to contribute to humanity by lending a hand to those in need. I have resolved to give to humanity and those in need. I am committed to do my best bearing in my mind that people cannot always rely on government. I believe there are things we can do in our own little ways to make the society better.
As someone who has immensely benefited from education, I believe that access to education is critical to lifting people from where they are to where they desire to be in life. It is in pursance of this vision and goals that I decided to launch this foundation today.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I have invited you here today to witness what God is doing in my community, the Umuawuchi Autonomous Community.
This foundation was inspired by my worries realizing that my community, the Umuawuchi Autonomous Community did not have a secondary school until some years ago when the Rochas Okorocha's Administration established one. Because of the poor state of facilities in the school, I decided to commence the building of a new classroom blocks at the school for the use of the students.
This occasion marks the official launching of the OGBENNA NNAMDI FOUNDATION. The foundation stands for empowering humanity and providing solutions to societal problems. The foundation is my own platform to reach out and touch those in need. To this end, the foundation will diligently pursure the construction of the new classroom blocks at the secondary school, so that the students can enjoy a better environment conducive for learning and academic excellence.
Another major project of the foundation is the sponsorship of the free medical services to the people of my community and it's environs. To achieve this goal, the foundation has engaged the services of a team of medical experts in various field of medicine to handle all manner of illnesses. The foundation will bear the cost of the medical bills on behalf of the beneficiaries.
The foundation will also sponsor the full payment of West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration fees to all student applicants from the community. The foundation will in addition pay Bursary allowance to all students of the community in any institution of higher learning within Nigeria. The foundation will expand it's programs to other areas of need as God continues to perfect His work through us.
To the young generation of Umuawuchi Autonomous community, I pray they will soar above those circumstances that limit their aspirations. It is my earnest desire that with God on our side, we shall be that which God has destined for us.
May I humbly thank everyone who has contributed in one way or the other to make this occasion a success. As you journey back to your respective homes, I wish the Almighty God will grant you journey mercies.
May I with the greatest sense of humility welcome you to the official unveiling of OGBENNA NNAMDI FOUNDATION.
god Bless You.
OGBENNA NNAMDI FOUNDATION.
