Heads of security agencies in Imo State on Monday vowed to crush members of the Indigenous People of Biafra over the September 14 sit -at -home order by the proscribed group.
Those who said they were ready to confront the IPOB members were the state Commissioner of Police , Dasuki Galadanchi, and the Brigadier Commander , 34 Artillery Brigade , Obinze -Owerri , HI Bature.
Other heads of security agencies who made the vow were those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; Nigeria Immigration Service ; Air Force, among others .
Describing the pro -Biafran agitators as “ miscreants,” Galadanchi said the proposed sit -at -home order was not in tandem with the laws of the land.
He , therefore , advised the members of the public to ignore the call for the sit -at -home and go about their business without fear of any attack .
Galadanchi said that the security agencies would from Tuesday ( today) begin what he termed, “Operation show of force ,” across the state to sensitise the people to the need to ignore the IPOB order .
He said, “IPOB members should remember that where one person ’ s rights end , the other person ’s rights begin . Imo State must be great in our time. The sit -at -home order is at variance with the law.
“ Anybody who tries to threaten law-abiding citizens in the name of sit -at -home would have the security agencies to contend with .”
Likewise , Bature said the army and other security agencies had the capacity and ability to contend with the IPOB members , urging the pro-Biafra group to explore lawful channels to press home their demands instead of threatening public peace .
Meanwhile, some pan-Igbo groups on Monday endorsed the sit -at -home protest ordered by IPOB on September 14 .
The groups , including the Igbo Women Assembly, Eastern Consultative Assembly, Igbo Youth Movement , as well as some students, trade unions , endorsed the IPOB directive at a meeting in Enugu .
Speaking after the meeting, the convener and leader of the Igbo Women Assembly, Mrs Maria Okwor, lamented the plight of some Igbo women who were recently locked up and arraigned before a court in Owerri , the Imo State capital .
Okwor described what happened to the women, said to be IPOB members , as “ humiliating. ”
She said, “We condemn the humiliation meted out to Igbo women who were locked up in Owerri for expressing their opinions in a democracy. Several years after the Nigerian Civil War , Igbo are ( still ) being treated as a conquered people .
“ Ndigbo should sit at home on Friday , September 14 , to express our frustrations with the country.
Nigeria must return to the 1963 Constitution for it to survive.
Expressing frustration with recent military exercises in the region , the Secretary of the Eastern Consultative Assembly and Founder of the Igbo Youth Movement , Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko , said the “constant invasion of Igboland with military hardware every September ” was provocative and insulting .
He said , “Every September , military equipment are moved menacingly into Igboland just to remind us that we are a conquered people .
“ All Igbo who are aggrieved about this endless provocative and humiliating invasion called Python Dance 3 should stay indoors on Friday , September 14 , to send a message to the world that we are angry with this constant humiliation . ”
