The security detail of the impeached Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere , was on Thursday withdrawn by the state Commissioner of Police , Dasuki Galandanchi.
Madumere , in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Uche Onwuchekwa , cried out that he was open to attacks .
He said, “ The Office of the Deputy Governor condemns the action of the Commissioner of Police for yielding to being an instrument of oppression in the hand of the governor and ready to do his bidding, too.
“ The Imo State Commissioner of Police , in the wake of the failed swearing-in of Governor Okorocha ’s new Deputy Governor -designate , due to the refusal of the Chief Judge and other qualified judicial officers , in obedience to a court order , to proceed with the swearing-in, had withdrawn all police officers attached to the impeached Deputy Governor .
“ In the same spirit of impunity and recklessness , strange-looking policemen , without any recourse to the restraining order of the court , at about 10 am on Tuesday , August 1 , 2018, sealed off the entrance to the office of the deputy governor with chain and a padlock without any reason advanced for their action .
“ When asked , they claimed they were sent from the Governor ’s Office. All the staff of the deputy governor were not only humiliated but chased out of the office .
“ This act of impunity has , in no little measure , affected the business of the Office of the Deputy Governor as Imolites, who visited the office for genuine reasons , were humiliated and embarrassingly turned back.
“ This act of illegality is not limited to the Office of the Deputy Governor , Prince Madumere , his official residence located in the Commissioners’ Quarters , along Concorde Boulevard, was also sealed off too. His Excellency , the Deputy Governor ’s relations and members of staff have not been allowed access to the facility and to their personal belongings.
“ Our concern is not unconnected with the court order , which restrained all parties involved in the impeachment saga to stay action until the determination of the matter before the court , ” Onwuchekwa said in the statement .
He said unless the court decided otherwise , Madumere remained the Deputy Governor.
Madumere appealed to the Inspector – General of Police to caution the Imo State Commissioner of Police and direct him to restore the deputy governor ’ s security details without further delay.
Meanwhile, after 24 hours of locking the office of the impeached Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere , policemen attached to the state Government House, Owerri on Thursday evening reopened it .
This is even as the aides of the impeached deputy governor had continued to attend to work.
While some policemen on Wednesday locked the office , the office was unlocked when our correspondent visited the office located on Imo State High Court Road on Thursday evening.
A journalist attached to the office of the impeached deputy governor , Iheanyi Enwerem , confirmed to our correspondent that the office had been reopened.
According to him , some policemen locked it on Wednesday but reopened it on Thursday .
He told our correspondent that Madumere had not visited his office since the state lawmakers “ purportedly ” removed him from office despite a court order .
Madumere had through his media aide on Wednesday insisted that he was still the deputy governor of the state.
Madumere argued that there was no proof from the point of law to ascertain that he had been impeached.
He said his removal from office hours after an Owerri High Court presided over by Justice Benjamin Iheaka , gave an order stopping further proceedings on his impeachment until the matter was determined by the court was not known by law.
