According to a Facebook post by Bar Kissinger Ikeokwu with the headline, "Breaking News: IMO DEPUTY GOVERNOR BREAKS SILENCE JOINS GUBER RACE"
The press statement reads, "the Imo State Deputy Governor, His Excellency Prince Eze Madumere Mfr, was reported to have on thursday night, disclosed his readiness to join the 2019 governorship race after years of silence on his political ambition. Madumere who is from Owerri zone which has not produced a governor since the return of democracy in 1999, said that he is eminently qualified to succeed his boss, governor Rochas Okorocha".
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Uche Onwuchekwa, the deputy governor, said "he has decided to heed the calls across the state and beyond to contest the 2019 election in the interest of the people of the state who have shown him overwhelming support and solidarity. The party chieftains endorsed him as their sole candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial election".
The gathering was said to have party executive members from all the 12 wards of Mbaitoli LGA, led by the Local Government Chairman, Barr Tony Amaechi in attendance.
He said, the information of endorsement and declaration were posted online by the allies of the Deputy Governor on social media Udochukwu Dickson and Jeff Unamma.
The lawyer, Bar Ikokwu asked "Do you think the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere could go public in his guber ambition without an express greenlight from his Boss, giving his previous disposition and body language of treading cautiously and in obidience and loyalty to his Boss's wishes? Interesting times ahead surely." he concludes.
You could recall the Imo Deputy Governor had repeatedly told anyone who cares to listen that "if his loyalty to Okorocha is a sin, let him commit it, that he will declare to contest for Imo Governorship Election in 2019 if his Boss, leader, mentor and role model, Owelle Rochas Okorocha sanctioned it. But recent political events in Imo suggest that Okorocha is displeased of Madumere succeeding him in office, rather his Son-in-law, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu. Information has it that Okorocha has told the Mbieri born Prince, that he has settled him for services over decades with political power of Chief of Staff and Deputy Governor of Imo State. He equally ruled him out on age when when said "nobody above 50yrs will take over from him", Madumere is above 50yrs.
Now that Prince Eze Madumere has gone ahead to declare for Imo Governorship without express approval from Okorocha his Boss, does it him, he is set to battle his mentor and role model, Imolites asked ?
