Arsenal are eyeing up a move for former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans and are believed to have made an enquiry for the Northern Irishman, even though they have yet to make a bid.

The Gunners were reportedly interested in him in the summer while City fell short with a bid, although they still retain an interest but have also considered Inigo Martinez at Real Sociedad and Leicester City's Harry Maguire, though the latter would be difficult to prise away, according to the Daily Mail.

It is reported that Arsene Wenger is keen to add experience to his back line after seeing Arsenal's defensive frailties exposed during recent games against Liverpool, Crystal Palace, West Brom and Chelsea, games in which they conceded eight times.

Evans, 30, is one of the most experienced defenders in the top flight, having made 255 Premier League appearances, and fits perfectly into what Wenger might want in a new center back.
