Owerri—Anti-robbery operatives of Imo State Police
Command have killed two robbers in a gun battle at Ezi-Ogbaku in Mbaitoli Local
Government Area of the state, while three fled with gunshot injuries.
The state Police Public
Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, while receiving the lifeless bodies of
the suspects yesterday at the headquarters, said the identities of the suspects
had not been unravelled.
Narrating how the
incident happened, he said: “In the early hours of yesterday, operatives of
Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Imo State Police Command
received a distress call that robbers were operating at Ezi-Ogbaku in Mbaitoli
Local Government Area of the state.
“SARS, in conjunction
with Police Mobile Force officers, responded to the emergency situation around
2a.m. The teams encountered the robbers, numbering five, who opened fire on the
policemen.
“The officers responded,
which led to the death of two of the robbers, while three fled with gunshot
injuries.” (Vanguard)
