As part of the activities lined up to celebrate the 55th birthday anniversary of Imo State Governor , Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha, the good people of Ohaji/Egbema today, August 21st, paid a courtesy visit to the governor to felicitate with him on his Birthday.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima thanked and commended the governor for all the support the state government is giving the oil producing communities of Ohaji-Egbema LGA.
He said “anywhere you go, they say it is Ohaji/Egbema people that are in charge”, he also commended the governor for the sustained peace so far in the region since he granted the people Amnesty, he stated peace is gradually returning to Obiti and Awarra where they have been renewed hostilities and the people have sworn not to engage in restive activities."
The elated governor in his response, "thanked the good people of Ohaji/Egbema for coming to celebrate with him, he said Ohaji/Egbema is very dear to him that was why he established the Niger Delta ministry to champion the development of Ohaji/Egbema, he also promised to earmark and survey lands in Ohaji/Egbema and give necessary documents like certificate of occupancy to the people, so that the oil companies cannot come under the guise of Federal Government ownership of land to deny the people their benefits, with the certificate of occupancy, the land belongs to them not the government and they can have a better bargain with the oil companies unlike in the past when they were given peanuts for what belongs to them, he noted Ohaji/Egbema has a lot to gain from this government while describing the Local Government as an emerging city of the future."
Governor Okorocha also assured the people that "the moribund Imo Palm Plantation is coming back to life this coming October and also the Rubber Palm Plantation at Obiti has been revived and handed over to investors."
He described Hon. Uju Kingsley as an inclusive leader and also commended him for bringing his people close to government regardless of party affiliations and championing the course of a better and developed Ohaji/Egbema.
Those in attendance were all the traditional rulers from Ohaji/Egbema, ISOPADEC management, political appointees-past and present, women and youths of Ohaji/Egbema.
