The member representing Owerri Municipal State Constituency, Hon Lugard Osuji, has claimed that, contrary to news from some quarter alleging that the capital territory of the state is now a danger zone, Owerri metropolis is safe and calm.
The lawmaker stated this while speaking to newsmen in his office. Osuji advised traders to go about their normal businesses without fear as relevant security operatives are around to arrest any ugly incident.
Yesterday(Wednesday) , there were reports of clashes involving youths of Owerri and their counterparts from Ohaji, which caused unrest, but the majority leader of the house in a swift response, distanced the youths of Ohaji and Owerri from the fuss. Osuji said that some desperate individuals, who want to cash into the situation on ground for cheap political gains are responsible for the negative news.
In his words, ''There is no crisis in owerri, the youths of Owerri are very responsible and law abiding citizens who cannot cause unrest in the state, we don't have any problem with our brothers from Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area, what you heard or saw yesterday was a misunderstanding between some men of Imo community watch and some unidentified youths, we shouldn't be deceived, what I told you is nothing but the truth. '' Osuji revealed.
Osuji, while promising to lead his constituents for a peace dialogue with the government, said that he would ensure that the recent directives from the state government, which involves ban of commercial tricycles, are taken one step at a time.
