Since he left office as the first Executive Governor of Abia State, 24 years ago, this is the first time Dr Ogbonnaya Onu is returning to the Umuahia Government House on official visit.
It is interesting to also note the presence of 2 former Governors from Anambra and the current Governor of Abia state.
Dr Ogbonnaya Onu is the current Minister of Science and Technology while Dr Chris Ngige is the Minister of Labour while Mr Peter Obi (Okwute Ndigbo) is the former Governor of Anambra State.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Abia State Education for Employment program and official launching of Abia State Job Center Portal, the Honorable Minister of Science and Technology and first Civilian Governor of the old Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said:
"I am delighted to return to the Government House Umuahia 24 years after I left as Governor of the old Abia State. This is my first official visit here in 24 years.
I am in the ancient city of Umuahia to flag off the launch of the Waste to Wealth Program, an initiative of the Federal Government aimed at converting the huge waste deposits we produce into wealth. Abia was chosen as flag off for the South East because Abia is clearly the leader in terms of entrepreneurship and commerce. I thank my brother, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his leadership in ensuring that the best in our people keeps manifesting".
The Education for Employment programme held at International Conference Centre Umuahia and organised by Abia State government has in attendance CEO Dangote Group ably represented by South East regional Manager Dangote Group. Also in attendance were CEO Innoson Group, Chief Innocent Chukwuma OFR, former Governors of Anambra State, Peter Obi and Chris Ngige.
Speaking Chief Innocent Chukwuma (Innoson) said "From among these (E4E) graduates a new Bill Gate will emerge in Abia State"
Adding his voice, the Minister of Labour and former Anambra State Governor, Dr Chris Ngige averred that "This program (E4E) is dear to the heart of the government of President Buhari..."
Making his contribution, the host and Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu Stated that
"The graduates of E4E are not just clutching certificates but also a drivers license that will help them drive to prosperity"-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu
He also declared the Abia State job portal officially open.
