The Chief Medical Director of the hospital who confirmed the incident said that a resident doctor who took the delivery of a pregnant woman with Lassa virus had been found to be infected and had been isolated.

He stated that the pregnant woman died and was later discovered that she suffered Lassa fever. The body of the pregnant woman had already been handed over to the family before the hospital discovered she had Lassa fever.It was also gathered that another patient died of Lassa fever in the same hospital but the CMD could not disclose her identity.
No fewer than 100 workers of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital have been put under surveillance following their contacts with two patents who died of Lassa Fever in the hospital on Tuesday.
However, Lagos State Government is yet to address the press on the resurgence of Lassa fever in the metropolis and how it could curb the situation before it would get out of hands.
There is need for government to locate the residence of the deceased so as to fish out any other member of their families that would have been infected by the virus.
