Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has given indication that his administration will carry out far reaching investigations to determine the veracity or otherwise of claims that there were casualties during the Eke-Ukwu Owerri relocation exercise which was carried out yesterday, 26th August, 2017.
In a press statement by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, the government says it will investigate claims and counter claims of any recorded death during the exercise. The statement however indicated that the government is not aware of any such developments, while commending the security agents for ensuring a peaceful and successful exercise.
Meantime, the social media has been invaded with embarrassing pictures and videos showing the remains of a young boy who was alleged to have been mowed down by a stray bullet. Independent reports from those who witnessed the demolition exercise confirm that there were shootouts between some unidentified hooligans and security agents, who made efforts to repel the attack and protect civilians.
The governor who visited the former Eke-Ukwu market for an on the spot assessment of the exercise, was said to have been emotionally shattered on hearing the rumors and asked for a full report on the matter to be made available to him in the shortest possible time.
