Tragedy struck Tuesday, 18th July 2017 at the site of the new market being built by Governor Rochas Okorocha at Egbeada, Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State as a labourer working on the site was buried alive by mudslide while excavating sands from a drainage at the market site.
According to eyewitness account, the labourer whose identity could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report was among the labourers engaged by the government to excavate sand from a drainage around the market to Channel the body of water which has made one lane of the Owerri-Orlu road impassable for months.
It was gathered by Ifeanyicy.com that the labourers were in the process of excavating the mud that had silted up the drainage when the landslide occurred trapping three of the labourers.
Ifeanyicy.com learnt that effort was immediately made to rescue the buried labourers by those around the site using a payloader but before they could be reached, one of them had died. The other victims were said to have been rushed to hospital for treatment.
