Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central) and Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi (APC-Kaduna North) were attacked on Sunday at a press conference in Kaduna.
The two lawmakers were said to be about to address newsmen at the press centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kaduna when some hoodlums alleged sponsored by the state invaded the event.
The hoodlums were said to have attempted to assault the senators but the security operatives attached to them did their job.
The assailants were left with the vehicles of the senators parked within the premises to leash on, as they reportedly destroyed the widescreens and the side mirrors.
However, fingers are pointing at the direction of the State Governor, Mallam El-Rufai who was alleged to have sponsored state thugs against his political rivals Senators Shehu Sani and Hunkuhi.
Meanwhile, Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has reacted swiftly by condemning the attack on Senators Shehu Sani, kunkiyi and NUJ.
In a message to the Kaduna State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the government condemned the mob action by hoodlums at the premises of the NUJ on Sunday.
Having been briefed on the situation, the governor expressed sympathy with the NUJ and the persons that were harassed by the hoodlums. The Governor directed that the security agencies should investigate and take necessary action against the hoodlums. The Governor also directed security agencies to beef up security at the NUJ secretariat to protect journalists doing their duty.
