Mr Chukwunonye Ori, a native of Onitsha Ezinihite Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State was Wednesday sentenced to two years imprisonment for Stealing five fowls belonging to one Mr Muoneke which amounts to N22, 000 at the Owerri Relief Market.
The magistrate, His Worship N. V Nwauwa, after listening to the report and the confessional statement made by the accused, Mr Ori, raised eyebrows on his action. She frowned on the Accused idleness and the idea of stealing to make a living. At the end she pronounced 2 Years Imprisonment as a punishment for Mr Ori.
Ori during interrogation revealed he came down from Cameroon when his firewood business could no longer function well. And on coming back here according to him, things became difficult since he cannot lay hands on anything to make his living. He said that he resolved to steal fowls from relief market and at Mbaise. But he met his waterloo on the 12th of July 2017 at Relief Market when he was trapped. He also revealed during his statement that he never knew that he will appear in court that Wednesday as his people were not properly informed on the matter.
He also confessed that this is not his first time of stealing fowls but the only thing is that he avoided stealing at any Mbaise markets because he comes from there. He was later taken to Owerri Prison.
