Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has wielded into the long raging debacle between Mbaise Catholic faithful and the Vatican over the appointment of Bishop Peter Okpalaeke as the substantive bishop of Ahiara Diocese of the Mother Church.
The Priests from the Catholic Diocese of Mbaise had come on the visit to the Governor few days after they were reported to have met with the Pope in Rome over the Crisis.
The delegation, made up of some of the old priests in the Diocese including Rev. Monsignor Edward Amakiri had met with the governor behind closed doors and they had discussed on how best the crux of the Crisis at the Ahiara Catholic Diocese can be resolved without further delay.
The Governor while receiving the delegation of Catholic priests from Ahiara Diocese assured the clergy and laity of Ahiara Catholic family that he will do everything within his powers as the governor of the State to rein in the crisis, which he observed has put the State, the Mbaise clan and even the Church in bad light, as there has been several misrepresentations of facts and bad media coverage of the incident.
He charged all the major actors in the issue to sheathe their swords, soften their rhetorics and give peace a chance for the sake of the Mother Church and the entire Body of Christ.
