The State Secretary of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon Ray Emeana by now is thanking God for escaping a misfortune that would have befallen him on Sunday night.
Unknown suspected assassins numbering about four who trailed him from the road to his Akwakwuma residence failed to get at the PDP scribe after firing several shots targeted at him.
According to Hon. Emeana, after a visit to Assumpta Chapel early in the day, he later moved out with his driver to some private engagements in Owerri Municipality before coming back home around 9pm. At the last roundabout at Akwakuma in his community, Emeana disclosed that he noticed a parked car that started trailing them moments his driver negotiated to his country home.
According to him, the car still followed them until bad spots on the road separated them. But the suspected assassin's car raced in immediately trying to double cross Emeana's car at the entrance gate to his house when his security guard opened the gate.
Emeana's drive was smart enough to maneuver the assassin's by gaining entrance first before the former lawmaker who represented Owerri North botted away after alighting from his vehicle. Since it was night and there was no power supply too, Emeana surreptitiously escaped and went into hiding while the fully armed assassins shot sporadically towards the direction he went to.
On Monday afternoon, Hon. Emeana addressed the press on the unsuccessful assassination attempt. With him was the State Chairman of Imo state PDP, Barrister Charles Ezekwem and other officials of the party executive and PDP members.
