Imo Agog For Maiden Ugwumba Unity Cup Tournament; As Emenike, Iheanacho, Okafor, Eche, Others Grace Opening Ceremony
The much talked about Ugwumba Unity Football Competition for all the 27 LGAs in Imo State powered by Chief Uche Nwosu, Chief of Staff to Imo State Governor, got on the way at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri last Saturday with funfair.
It was indeed a roll call of who is who in the Rescue Mission Government as Deacon Chike John Okafor, Reps Member for Okigwe South, Sir George Eche, Secretary to Imo State government, Rt Hon Acho Ihim, Speaker Imo State House, Hon Ugonna Ozuruigbo, Deputy Speaker IMHA, Okenze Sylvester Obinna, APC Chieftain, members of the Imo State House of Assembly, Former Commissioners, Former Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistant, Special Assistants, General Managers, President Heartland FC, Hon Goodfaith Etuemena, Ex-Super Eagles Player, Emmanuel Emenike and many others were on ground to grace the opening ceremony.
Speaking to Ifeanyicy.com on the event, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Imo State, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, sponsor of the tournament disclosed that apart from uniting Imolites with football that the competition will also aim to fish out talents that can be sponsored to further their career abroad adding that it will be an annual event.
During the first encounter which incidentally was between Nkwerre (Ugwumba's LGA) and Obowo (Chike Okafor's LGA), Uche Nwosu team triumph via penalties to progress to the next round.
Meanwhile, in a second game on Sunday which saw the presence of Manchester City Striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, also at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Ohaji-Egbema played Isiala Mbano, Oguta played Okigwe LGA, and it continued.
Hon Nwosu however, promised that the winner of the tournament will take home the sum of one million naira, just as the 1st runner up and second runner up will get N750, 000 and N500, 000 respectively and other consolation prizes for other LGAs.
