The former governor of Imo State, Dr Ikedi Ohakim has dragged Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Rochas Okorocha to Court for libel.

Ohakim in suit No. HOW/414/2017 also joined Whitepaper Media Ltd, publishers of Whitepaper owned by Mr Onwuemeodo.

The former governor in the suit dated 5th day of June 2017 and filed by his lawyer, Chief H. N. Duroha, accused Onwuemeodo of writing a libelous press release, headed and entitled: "Subject: We Won't Spend Our Time Replying The Former Governor, His Excellency Chief Ikedi Ohakim Again -- Let Him Tell the story of His Governorship in Imo if it's worth Telling".

He further accused the defendants in the suit of publishing ; "Rochas Okorocha runs a people-oriented government, with some of the elite having grudges and his approach could not be the same with a regime that took delight in flogging indigenes including a priest."

Ohakim is claiming two billion naira being general damages for libel;and retraction of the said libelous article published in "The Whitepaper",  "The Sun",  The Vanguard", and "The Nation"  newspapers.

He likewise pray for perpetual injunction restraining defendants from publishing a repetition of the offending libelous article in any form or manner.  No date has been fixed for hearing.
