Since Monday, the 22nd of May, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka kicked off the Chinua Achebe Celebration which would last till the 25th of May, 2017.

Every preparation has been set for the reception of the Former Executive Governor of Imo State, Chief Dr. Ikedi Ohakim to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, today, Tuesday 23rd May, 2017.
On this same day, Dr. Ohakim would bag the Chinua Achebe Award as a Champion of Intellectual Discourse, and join in the immortalization and institutionalization of the global literary Icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe.
Recall that it was Chief Ohakim, who hosted what turned out to be Chinua Achebe’s last official outing, at the Ahiajoku lecture in Owerri, on January 23rd, 2009, where the legendary writer gave the keynote address.
Prof. Achebe held many positions while he served in Nsukka, infact, he has an office, before and even after his death. The last time that very office was opened was in 1990, when the iconic writer celebrated his birthday.
The Institute of African Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in collaboration with the Co-ordinator of the Chinua Achebe Celebration, Emeka Nwabueze, have come to understand the relationship which the Legendary writer Prof. Chinua Achebe, before his death, maintains with Chief Dr. Ikedi Ohakim.
Recall that when Achebe published his last work, There was a Country, his personal memoir on Biafra, he sent a signed copy to Chief Ohakim.
