Imo State 2017 Football Association champions, Samdaddy Football Club have vowed to conquer Nigeria by winning this year's federation cup.
Samdaddy FC in a surprising but dramatic final, defeated the all time winners, Heartland FC 1-0 to clinch the trophy in the competition's forty years existence.
At a reception in honour of the history makers , by the sponsor, senator Samuel Anyanwu, its Chief coach, George Onyenekwe, said that the eyes of the club were fixed on the upcoming federation cup competition .
Onyenekwe, former coach of the defunct Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, posited that having been the first club in the competition's forty years to beat Heartland FC to the trophy, himself, his players and together with the technical crew would not but desire to write their names in gold, by surprising the nation later in the year by beating other favorite teams to it.
The team captain, Chidi Nwachukwu, averred that the players dedicated the trophy to the coach because of the way he inspired and encouraged them all through the competition.
The central defender said "we have dedicated the trophy to our great coach. He inspired us and told us that we can beat almighty Heartland FC. We never believed we could, until it was clear that we are champions".
The owner and sponsor of the club, Anyanwu, asserted that he had concluded arrangement for the team to meet the minister of sports and youth development, Solomon Dalung, so as to see ways of helping the most talented ones to fulfill their dreams of becoming professional footballers.
Anyanwu, who represents Imo East in the Senate was of the view that football was a meaningful engagement which would take teeming youths of the streets into superstars.
