Following relentless petitions by the good people of Ossemotor autonomous community to the Niger Delta Development Commission about the deplorable state of Ossemotor/Egbuoma Road—a deplorable condition which seems to have worsen by the arrival of raining season—the authorities of that Commission, it now appears, have acknowledged the plight of Ossemotor people and have gone ahead to award the contract for the rehabilitation of the said road.

So last weekend, the contractor in charge of the road rehabilitation project, Chief Tony Chukwu of Ruodo Nigeria Limited visited Ossemotor and Egbuoma communities to acquaint himself with the terrain of the area.

Chief Tony Chukwu had complained to the Traditional Ruler of Ossemotor Ancient Port Kingdom, HRM Eze Franklin Cajethan Okafor about the aggressive and hostile nature of youths of oil producing areas which according to him had always discouraged contractors from doing business in the region.

In his response, HRM Eze Franklin Cajethan Okafor (aka Ejiamatu), the Otachereoha (2) of Ossemotor Ancient Port Kingdom firstly thanked the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha and the Niger Delta Development Commission for listening to the cries of the good people of Ossemotor and Egbuoma communities and coming to their rescue.

Eze Ejiamatu assured his guest Chief Tony Chukwu that his company Ruodo Nigeria Limited would not be inconvenienced or exploited by the youths of Ossemotor and Egbuoma communities. According to Eze Ejiamatu, Ossemotor and Egbuoma communities are some of the safest and best places for contractors to operate in the entire Niger Delta areas and that on his good assurances, while the youths of both communities will provide local security, the women would cook food for the workmen.

Lending his voice to the conversation, Prince Dr Henry Okafor, General Manager, Imo State Housing Corperation and SDC Coordinator of Ossemotor/Enuigbo Ward had expressed dismay and regrets that some developmental projects due to the oil region of Imo State might have been diverted to other areas on the excuses of unfriendly and uncomplimentary dispositions of youths of the region.

Dr. Henry Okafor revealed that sooner than later, his youth groups, Rochas Youth Rescue Movement and Niger Delta Youth Rescue Movement would embark on educational campaign in all the communities of the Niger Delta in Imo State to sensitize the people of the region particularly the  youths about the rewards of creating enabling environment for contractors to operate.

Highlights of the event included Chief Tony Chukwu pledge of financial support for a church building project at St. Benedict Catholic Church after being impressed by the hospitality of Ossemotor people
