Former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has been described as most qualified and ready to lead Imo State to the promised land.

The assertion was made by a university don, Prof. Obioma Iheduru during an interactive session with newsmen in Owerri, Wednesday. He stressed that Chief Ihedioha has done very well in all ramification, including possessing sound academic qualification, vast legislative experience laudable  achievements.

The professor of Political Science further stated that having observed Chief Emeka Ihedioha since public service career he was strongly convinced that the former Chief Whip of the House of Representatives is well equipped to serve as Imo governor in 2019, stressing that there is therefore no cogent reason why he should not be elected the next Imo governor.

He said, “I have known His Excellency, Emeka Ihedioha for a very long time. In one simple expression, Ihedioha is a good man. He accomplished a lot in learning and character both as a University of Lagos graduate and as a career public servant. He is very well educated from reputable institutions both in Nigeria and abroad. He is very civil and cultured, respectful of people and institutions. He is very transparent and accountable. He had no scandal at the House all through his career there. It takes a good follower to become a good leader. Chief Ihedioha has been a good follower of great leaders in this country and has also proved to be a good leader in Nigeria. That’s why I am convinced he will organize Imo to the satisfaction of every Imo person.

“It’s sheer mischief of anyone to insinuate that Ihedioha achieved nothing in his tenure at the National Assembly. I refuse to join issues with such people. But the good people of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency he represented at the House know better that his representation was very rewarding. The many men, women and youths that benefited from his various empowerment programmes and projects are still alive and doing well to testify to that. The roads, the bridges, the science equipment distributed to schools in the three zones of the state are still there as lasting legacies to speak for the success and achievement of Chief Ihedioha. I feel those who ask what he achieved are not being reasonable or responsible.

“Ihedioha is youthful and in the very right age to provide responsible good governance for Imo people. He understands the yearnings and aspirations of the youths. He can even easily pass for a youth in some circles. And then don’t forget that he was Deputy to  Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal. Today, Tambuwal is the governor of Sokoto State. I am of the candid opinion that if Tambuwal is good enough to become Sokoto governor, Ihedioha should be good enough to be Imo governor.

“His three terms in the Federal House should be seen as a great asset to Imo State if he becomes in governor in 2019. He has over the time created a large network of fellow leader s and friends at federal and state levels, and even overseas. Those will be of immense benefit to the state once he assumes office as governor. Those castigating his tenure at the House are also being naïve, insincere and mischievous.

“On the issue of zoning, I can’t see any controversy about that. The Nigerian constitution is clear on that. Zoning is upheld by our constitution as well as the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Yet, I know that Chief Ihedioha is not counting on the zoning policy to ask for the governorship mandate from the Imo people in 2019. He is quite eminently qualified to be our governor.

Continuing he said, “It’s unfair to compare Emeka Ihedioha with Ike Ekweremadu. Ekweremadu has been a Deputy Senate President for twelve years consecutively. Ihedioha was a Deputy Speaker for only four years. What Ihedioha attracted from the federal government can therefore never be equated with what Ekweremadu has attracted. Asking such a question making such a comparison is also another evidence of mischief combined with ignorance. Government officials, whether elected or appointed, must be circumspect with their utterances so as not to expose themselves and their government as unreasonable and irresponsible.”

The don thereafter went on speak more elaborately on how, like a prophet, Chief Emeka Ihedioha is not accorded the rightful regard and respect by some Imo politicians, while at the national level Ihedioha is held in very high esteem. The professor then urged Imo people to brace up for a revolutionary true transformational government and governance that will return lost joy and happiness back in 2019 with Chief Emeka Ihedioha.
