The unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers shot dead five Bakassi (Vigilante) boys, and injured their driver in a broad daylight along Aba Owerri Road, Abayi Aba, Abia State.
The incident which took place before MCC Junction, opposite Seventh Day Adventist Church (Sabbath), by Toonak, claimed the life of five vigilante men, while one of them (the driver) have been admitted to Abia State Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Reports reaching Ifeanyicy.com, has it that, the vigilante men were alleged to have disrupted the gunmen's operation, where they attempted to kidnapped a wealthy businessman at Tonimas, opposite Bicoz Filling Station, along Enugu/Port Hacourt express way.
Irked by the action of the Vigilante men, the hoodlum went on a rampage by tracing the Hilux of the vigilante group, while reaching at the spot where the incident happened, they double-crossed, took the vigilante men unaware, open fire on them, killed three instantly, while three of the vigilante officers including the driver were taken to the hospital, and two later died, left only the driver who sustained a gun shot at the hand, but currently admitted to the Teaching Hospital in Aba.
Narrating the story, our sources said "Three fully armed kidnappers engaged in a rapid shoot out against some men of the Abia state Vigilante officers, five of the officers was killed excluding the driver of the officers, who escaped from the scene of the incident...."
The body of the deceased Bakassi boys have been deposited at St. Francis Mortuary.
