As part of the exercise in rebuilding the oil rich region of ohaji/Egbema and Oguta, the Imo State government has redeemed the 20 million naira pledge made to the ex-agitators of the oil region.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Vice Chairman of the State Committee on Amnesty, Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima before the presentation of the money today, Thursday 16th February at Dan Anyiam Stadium thanked the leaders of the ex-agitators for taking a bold step in surrendering their arms to the government and assured them the government will not abandon them.

The Deputy Chief Of Staff (Operations) also briefed them on government’s immediate plans to train some of them on various skills which would enable them get contracts from the Oil companies and government through the Local Content Policy.

He also cautioned the Generals to ensure the money is evenly distributed among their boys and shouldn’t deny them their share. In his words, “what maketh a general is the ability to carry his soldiers along”.

Hon Uju appealed to them not to go back to the creeks or do anything that would be very inimical to the development of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta but rather should see themselves as ambassadors of peace and that the government will continue to accord them their full respect.
