Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has declared the readiness of the Federal Government to accommodate, instead of punishing operators of illegal petroleum refineries in the country.

Professor Osinbajo who is also the Acting President of Nigeria at present announced this during the Rivers State leg of his tour of Niger-Delta States, explained that the Federal Government understands that many Niger-Delta youths make a living through their involvement in the illegal refining of oil, hence, the idea of establishing modular refineries so that such youths can participate in the legal refining of oil.

The move is seen by analysts as a good leap forward in the push to achieve lasting peace in the Niger-Delta, which in turn shall ensure increased oil output from Nigeria. Violence in the Niger-Delta is responsible for cutting Nigeria's oil output by 700,000 barrels per day since 2015, making it possible for Angola to overtake Nigeria as the highest oil producer in Africa.
