Four months after Apostle-General Godson Ibeji of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim assumed office as the Chairman of the the Christian Association of Nigeria, Imo State chapter, indications are rift that fresh crises was lurking in the Christian body.
This is even as the Christian body is reportedly fictionalized with one side keen not to see Apostle-General Godson Ibeji as their leader and had called for a fresh election .
A CAN source said that the members who are opposed to the emergence of, Ibeji, as the chairman were of the opinion that he emerged through selection which was against the the body's Constitution.
According to the source, every executive member must emerge through an election which must be conducted by officials from the zonal headquarters.
He however disclosed that the immediate past Chairman, Bishop Stafford Nwaogu, had been directed by the South East zone Chairman of CAN, Most Revd David Eberechukwu, to continue to act as Chairman in the interest of peace since the Pentecostal and Orthodox blocs had refused to accept Ibeji as their new helmsman.
Ibeji is a member of Organisation of Indigenous African Churches (OIAC) bloc which alleged marginalisation by members . it claim to the leadership was premised on the sentiment that it had yet to produce the chairman of CAN in the state while other blocs had had several turns.
In a telephone chat, the CAN South East Chairman, Most Revd David Eberechukwu declined comments on the matter.
Further, he denied that he was to chair a meeting to evolve modalties to resolve the crises in Owerri.
