Nobel Laurette and activist, Professor Wole Soyinka has revealed plans to hold a private funeral ceremony for the death of commonsense in Nigeria.
The funeral date which coincides with the date, the US President-elect, Donald Trump will be sworn into office has nothing to do with the decision of Americans on who becomes their President, but on the apparent dearth of commonsense among the Nobel Laurette's countrymen and women.
Soyinka who regretted that Nigerians are appropriating the anonymity of the internet to expose their ignorance, also described those who criticized his decision and the subsequent delay in destroying his green card as "imbeciles" "blabbermouths" "slugs" "millipedes" and "Barbarians".
“I’m embarrassed that I’m occupying the same nation space with these imbeciles. You have to deal with power and have to deal with those who have to deal with power. Nigerians should realise how ridiculous they make themselves. ‘’The Nigerian personal is gaining notoriety all over the world. That is why Trump latched on the existing narrative." Blurted the visibly angry Soyinka.
I totally agree with Wole Soyinka that commonsense is mostly dead in Nigeria, but I disagree with his plans to conduct a funeral for that most important but free gift which an alarming number of Nigerians have unfortunately refused to put into use. I would rather that the literary icon and model to millions of Nigerians uses that same date to hold a reawakening ritual maybe in the Ogun shrine or anywhere else to see if a good number of Nigerians will reawaken their commonsense. Considering his age and status in the society, one cannot take the the far-reaching consequences of such action for granted.
